The metropolis of São Paulo is the cradle of many artists who have already achieved success in the whole country, and also outside. Alice Braga, Oswald de Andrade and Maria Rita are just a few examples of artists who have projected themselves from the capital of São Paulo to the world.

Below we list 10 artists who are inspired by the city of São Paulo, and who promise to achieve even more success in 2018.


1) Jão

The young João Vitor Romania, 23, is from a small city in the state of São Paulo, Araraquara, and has been standing out as a revelation of Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) since last year.

Jão, as is already called by netizens, began to be known when, in December 2016, he posted on his youtube channel, a cover of the song Na Sua Estante, by the Pitty singer from Bahia.


2) Rincon Sapiência

Rincon SapiênciaAfter the Racionais MCs burst in the early 1990s, rap fans were thrilled by the emergence of other talents such as Emicida and Criolo. The ball of the time now is called Rincon Sapiência, singer who presented his first complete album in 2017, the Galanga Livre.

The musician, who toured in France and Portugal, was chosen by the artist of the year by the APCA (Paulista Association of Art Critics) – awards that guaranteed him an invitation to participate as a national highlight of the Lollapalooza 2018 line-up.


3) Ana Gabriela

Ana Gabriela is a natural singer from São José dos Campos, in the interior of São Paulo. At the age of 21, she has already reached more than 1 million subscribers on her youtube channel.

The first videos of Ana Gabriela were recorded only with her cell phone, and she began to become known to the general public when she was nominated for the Brazilian Music Multishow Award in 2017.


4) Cynthia Luz

Cynthia Luz was born in Minas Gerais, but she is currently living in São Paulo. She began to sing in the choir of the church she attended as a child. As soon as he turned 15, he began performing at family parties and bars in his city and nearby regions.

Then she started posting home videos on youtube and caught the attention of rapper Mc Froid, with whom she has already released a musical partnership.


5) Lauana Prado

Luedji was born in Bahia, but was raised in the interior of São Paulo. In 2015, he moved to the city of São Paulo to sing in bars and in some concert halls.


7) Mar Aberto

Gabriela Luz, 22, and Thiago Mart, 30, form the double Mar Aberto. The two began their careers in music in 2017 and have already caught the attention of a major label.

The two signed last year a recording contract with Warner Music Brasil. The two claim that some of their major musical influences are Bob Marley and The Strokes.


8) Viegas

Marco Aurélio “Viegas”, a resident of São Paulo’s Eastern Zone, began to make his name known to the public at the beginning of 2018, due to his participation in the reality show “Big Brother”.

Viegas did not take the 18th season prize of the Brazilian version of reality, but his songs that mix rap and reggae increased in positions in Spotify, and attracted the attention of a good part of the viewers of the program.


9) Augusto Alvarenga

Augusto is a 22-year-old mining writer who, in 2017, has released his latest novel: “The Brightest Lights.”

The novel has as background the city of São Paulo, and tells the story of a couple who met on the famous Paulista Avenue.


10) Rouge

Rouge BandThis girlband, which was very successful in the early 2000s, was formed in São Paulo and decided to end its activities in 2006. Since then, the five girls in the band have gone solo.

In 2017, however, they met again and decided to return with the group. “Ragatanga”, “Brilha La Luna” and “Bailando” are some of the band’s greatest hits.
